Size can be deceptive – and Qatar proved it! With a population of 2.985M (as of September 2022), and a land area of 11,571 square metres, Qatar is the smallest host country on record. Check out the numbers that really count. Mega!
The most amazing FIFA World Cup™ ever would not have been possible without our amazing volunteers, as well as the children who supported and participated in the tournament. They brought their skills, enthusiasm and smiles to everywhere in Qatar – from the country’s entry gates to the stadium stands. Give them a hand!
- A record-breaking 400,000+ volunteer registrations received
- 20,000 volunteers selected from 150 nationalities
- 17,000 volunteers were Qatar residents and 3,000 were international volunteers
- Volunteers ranged from 18 to 77 years old, with an average age of 33
- Volunteers completed 160,539 shifts, which represents 1,284,312 hours volunteered
- 3,200 children participated in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ Youth Programme
