National Service Tournament

For the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ to succeed, we need the energy, ideas and support of Qatar's young people.
It is particularly important that we reach young people in Qatar's military, who are an influential symbol of the nation itself.
And so the National Service Tournament was born.

By establishing a football tournament for young men in the national service programme, we combined support for grassroots football with the opportunity to update this key demographic group on our progress towards 2022.
Popular support
Since the inaugural competition in 2015, it has rapidly grown in popularity. The 2017 edition consisted of 16 teams and 240 players, all cheered on by hundreds of their fellow recruits.

Hassan Al Thawadi, the SC's Secretary General, was quick to pick up on this popularity after the final of the first National Service Tournament: "What we saw in the final was not only a great match between the two teams, but also the positive spirit and enormous energy that football creates."
