Oman visit

Executives from the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy attended the Arab Sports Journalists Forum in Oman to discuss the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.

Khalid Al Mawlawi, Deputy Director General, Marketing, Communications & Event Experience, said excitement was building in Qatar and across the region ahead of the first FIFA World Cup™ in the Middle East and Arab world.

“With fewer than 100 days to go, Qatar stands ready to host a memorable edition of the FIFA World Cup,” said Al Mawlawi. “From day one, we have said this is a tournament for all Arabs – so we are happy to be here with our Omani brothers to celebrate this historic moment and discuss how we can maximise the impact of hosting the tournament long after the final whistle on 18 December.”

Fatma Al Nuaimi, Executive Director, Communications & Media, was pleased to meet members of the media in Oman to share key information about Qatar 2022, which will kick off on 20 November at Al Bayt Stadium when hosts Qatar face Ecuador.

“It is clear from our meetings with media in Oman that our tournament resonates in the hearts and minds of people across the region,” said Al Nuaimi. “Everyone is excited to come to Qatar and tell the world about our ability to host mega-events like the FIFA World Cup. This tournament will be a unique version, with an Arab and Middle Eastern flavour, and also the most compact edition of the World Cup in modern history, with all the stadiums and tourist attractions close by.”

The forum coincided with an SC media delegation visiting Oman, including Qatar Legacy Ambassadors Ahmad Kalil, Mubarak Mustafa and legendary Iraq player Younis Mahmoud.

“Oman has always been a crucial part of the football landscape in the region, producing a number of stars that captured the imagination of fans throughout the Gulf and Asia,” said Khalil, who famously led Qatar to Arabian Gulf Cup glory in 1992. “I’m sure Omani fans will be a critical part of the success of this tournament – and it was a pleasure to meet them and speak to journalists about how excited they are about the World Cup coming to the region for the first time.”
