Generation Amazing Foundation and Coaches Across Continents unite to mark Global Day of Play
Join the movement and #PledgetoPlayEveryday
The Generation Amazing Foundation (GA) – the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy’s (SC) human and social legacy project – teamed up with Coaches Across Continents (CAC) to celebrate the second annual Global Day of Play.
Founded by CAC, the Global Day of Play aims to raise awareness about the positive impact of play on everyday lives and highlight the decline of dedicated playtime in communities across the globe.
As part of this year’s campaign, GA and CAC developed an innovative toolkit that promotes the benefits of play, complete with online activities and social media material. The toolkit, which is available in six different languages, also encourages the global community to join the movement using the hashtag #PledgetoPlayEveryday.
Nasser Al Khori, Executive Director, Generation Amazing, said: “We are proud to partner with Coaches Across Continents to address social issues through the power of football. Our partnership is mutually beneficial and will enhance our football for development curriculum – which is being used across the world to benefit many thousands of children and youth. Thanks to this partnership, we will continue to reinforce important values and help young people develop key life skills.”
In 2021, more than 1.5 million people from over 130 countries took the #PledgetoPlayEveryday during the inaugural Global Day of Play. More than 41 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) from around the world participated in this year’s activities, with overall participation already exceeding last year’s figure. Engagement online witnessed participation from major organisations and networks, such as Degree (Rexona), United Way Latin America and Caribbean (unitedwaylac), Homeless World Cup, Beyond Sport, Women Win and SportandDev.
Brian Suskiewicz, Chief Executive Strategist, Coaches Across Continents, said: “Coaches Across Continents is thrilled that our partnership with the Generation Amazing Foundation is supporting the Global Day of Play. As all eyes focus on the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar, this partnership and initiative will allow our organisations to highlight the positive impact that play and sport can have on individuals and communities while addressing the UN Social Developmental Goals (SDGs).”
Last year, GA and CAC signed an agreement to deliver a football for development coaching education programme and curate a curriculum addressing the UN SDGs and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child during the 2021 Generation Amazing Festival.
GA operates in alignment with the UN SDGs, promoting inclusion and gender equality through its football for development programme. The programme's unique methodology teaches key life skills, including communication, leadership, teamwork and organisation. Since 2010, the programme has reached more than 755,000 youth in more than ten countries, and aims to reach 1 million beneficiaries by the end of this year.
