On the evening of 20 November 2022, Qatar welcomed the world! 67,372 spectators and billions of viewers tuned in to watch history, as the first FIFA World Cup™ in the Arab region kicked off at Al Bayt Stadium with a stunning Opening Ceremony – featuring His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and His Highness the Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

The 30-minute Opening Ceremony amazed fans from near and far. Narrated by Academy Award-winning actor Morgan Freeman and featuring Jung Kook from Korean supergroup BTS, the ceremony showcased Qatari culture and heritage, while highlighting football’s ability to unite people from different countries and cultures. A host of special guests from Qatar took part in the ceremony, including Ghanim Al Muftah, Danah, and Fahad Al Kubaisi – they were joined by hundreds of performers and tournament volunteers.

The Opening Ceremony featured eight distinct parts, culminating with giant jerseys from all 32 participating nations, alongside every mascot in FIFA World Cup™ history – including La’eeb™ the Official Mascot of Qatar 2022™. Conceived as a joyous and contemporary one-of-a-kind spectacle with an important unifying message, the ceremony was produced by Executive Artistic Director, Ahmed Al Baker, CEO of Katara Studios, and Artistic Director, Anghela Alo.

The Calling Music Video

Watch ‘The Calling’, the spectacular music video that introduced Qatar 2022™ to the world during the Opening Ceremony at Al Bayt Stadium!

Sung by Qatari female singer Danah, ‘The Calling’ is a fusion of Oriental sounds mixed with modern synthetic music. It’s inspired by traditional songs sung in hope that loved ones at sea will return soon. Here, it signifies the call sent by Qatar to the world inviting them to Al Bayt Stadium and the FIFA World Cup 2022™.
