Stadium Art

Every football stadium needs a distinct identity, and needs to inspire the fans – and players – who visit.

This is especially true of FIFA World Cup™ venues, which remain in the memories of fans from every corner of the globe.

We also want our FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ stadiums to contribute to a vibrant tourism experience for overseas visitors, becoming iconic landmarks that will draw people in long after the final whistle has been blown.

With that in mind, we created the Bassma 22 initiative, in partnership with Qatar Museums.

It involves commissioning local and regional artists to create striking public art installations for all of our stadiums, injecting something of themselves and our culture into our stadium complexes, for the whole world to see.

We hope local communities will enjoy these artworks as much as tourists, recognising aspects of Qatar's culture in them, feeling pride in their neighbourhoods and forming a deep connection to the venues and the tournament itself.

A growing development project

Bassma 22 is also a way for us to support local artists, cultural development in the region and the objectives set out in the Qatar National Vision 2030.

The stadium art installation at Al Rayyan Stadium acted as a successful pilot for this initiative, and invitations for contributions to our other stadium complexes will be coming in the near future.

If you want to become involved in Bassma 22, or just want to know more about the initiative, please contact community@sc.qa.
