Al Thumama Stadium Design
Al Thumama Stadium is a new stand-out feature of Qatar's ever-evolving landscape.
For many visitors, the first sighting of this magnificent stadium comes from above as flights descend into Hamad International Airport. Its striking form touches the hearts of many Arab families, who instantly identify with such an important part of their lives and culture.
It’s from the ground, however, that this FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ venue's identity truly astounds. To step inside such an emotive arena is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many local and visiting fans.
Weaving Arab culture into 2022 and beyond
The spirit of a shared regional heritage pulsates throughout the arena, while introducing a bold new vision for future sporting venues. The intricate, meaningful design of Al Thumama Stadium embraces both the past and the future – of Qatar and the whole Arab world.
Imagined and created by Qatar’s very best
The renowned Arab Engineering Bureau (AEB) is one of the oldest architectural and engineering firms in Qatar – and was responsible for the concept and schematic design of Al Thumama Stadium. AEB has received numerous local and international architectural awards for a style that perfectly incorporates and reflects Qatari, Arab and Islamic culture.
The project was led by AEB's chief architect, Ibrahim M. Jaidah. A Qatari national and one of the region's most respected practitioners, his previous work includes some of the country's most prominent landmarks – including the Ritz-Carlton's Sharq Village & Spa and the Ministry of Interior headquarters.
