Ras Abu Aboud Stadium Legacy

Few stadiums will have a legacy as far-reaching as that of Ras Abu Aboud Stadium.

For the first time in FIFA World Cup™ history, a host venue will be fully dismantled following the tournament. This process will be simplified by an innovative design that incorporates shipping containers, which will find various uses after 2022.

Modular seats and even the roof will be disassembled and re-used after the tournament. Ras Abu Aboud Stadium could provide the building blocks for another 40,000-seat stadium in a different location, or for several different types of sporting or non-sporting venues, creating an important social legacy by widening access to cultural or sporting events.

Demonstrating new possibilities

Going beyond the physical legacy left by this remarkable arena, it will not only inspire football fans to pick up a ball and emulate the superstars they saw in action at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. It will also show those planning future stadium development – and nations bidding for future editions of the FIFA World Cup™ and other sporting events – that a temporary venue can be visually appealing, easily disassembled and cost-effective.

In its short lifetime, Ras Abu Aboud Stadium will set a new benchmark and guide the way towards more sustainable and more legacy-driven sporting competitions, opening up hosting opportunities to countries all over the world.

The legacy at home

People who live close to the stadium site will enjoy a verdant waterfront development that will occupy the site once the stadium has gone. Work will begin soon after the final whistle brings the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ to an end.
