The Worker’s’ Welfare Standards were founded by the SC in 2014, aiming to ensure that every worker on FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ projects received the highest standards of health, safety, wellbeing and security.

In 2010, Qatar became the first country in the Middle East to be selected to host the world's biggest football tournament, the FIFA World Cup™. This was a proud day for the nation and the chance to write a new chapter in football history. But it also presented an incredible opportunity to enhance welfare standards for the thousands of workers who were helping us prepare to deliver an amazing tournament. The Workers’ Welfare Initiative aimed to achieve best practice in workers' welfare in Qatar, the region and the world – long after 2022’s last goal has been scored.
